A Special Kind of Relationship
When I first met my partner of almost 4 years, the most challenging experience we encountered was the sheer number of disapproving and curious glares from passing groups of people. I was overwhelmed and felt incredibly uncomfortable, especially in the remote rural area where we were located that happens to have a disproportionately high population of Caucasians.
The images I’ve created represent the connection we have with each other. We are happy to be in our own skin and to share it with each other. We still get stares from people, but we’ve learnt to overcome the feelings of awkwardness.
According to the BBC, “Interracial couples may seem common, but the latest figures show they only account for only 7% of Relationships in England and Wales.”
For people who may not understand it, an Interracial Relationship is a form of intimacy outside a specific social group involving partners who belong to different races or racialized ethnicities.
Interracial-ship.
Still in progress
